Assembling the Sleeve

Take Piece 3, the upper sleeve, and Piece 4, the lower sleeve. Place them right sides facing each other and align the notches. Sew along the horizontal edge.

Once stitched, finish the raw edges together on the wrong side using an overlock machine to serge the seam allowance.

Fold the sleeve in half vertically with right sides facing each other. Sew at the inner sleeve seam to close the sleeve. Once stitched, finish the raw edges together on the wrong side using an overlock machine to serge the seam allowance.

Repeat with the other sleeve.

Assembling the Glove

Each glove requires four Pieces 5: two mirrored pieces for each side. Edge B is where the zipper will be installed. The opposite edge with the two notches is where the thumbhole will be.

First, stack two mirrored Pieces 5 with the right sides facing each other and sew vertically between two notches. Also sew along the bottom edge. Be careful to not sew past the pieces’ edge as you need space for future zipper installation.

Clip the edges at the notches and turn over. Topstitch along the tumbhole edge and the bottom edge.

Repeat with another two Pieces 5. Now you have two halves of the glove.

Install the zipper in between the two B edges. Insert one side of the zipper, right sides facing with the fabric, and pin or clip along the edge. Then fold the opposite layer over, right side facing downward, sandwiching the zipper in between. Sew all three layers together using a straight stitch and a zipper foot.

Once sewn, you can flip the zipper right side out, then repeat for the opposite side.

Once both sides of the zipper are attached, top stitch vertically along the sides of the zipper, and connect to the bottom edge, closing any gaps. Then fold the glove outer sides facing each other, and sew along the top section above the thumb hole and the bottom section below the thumb hole.

Once sewn, you can trim off any excess seam fabric, then turn the glove right side out.

Attaching the Glove

Match the thumb hole seam to the inner sleeve seam, and the zipper to the center notch of the sleeve. Pin those two points first, then gather the excess sleeve fabric and distribute or fold it around the glove edge so they match up. Then sew all the way around with a straight stitch. Repeat for the opposite sleeve, and set aside.

Attaching the Collar

Gather one collar stand and one collar piece. Stack them right sides facing each other, along the bottom edge of the collar, align the notches and pin. Sew them using a straight stitch, however do not sew past the seam allowance on the sides. Repeat for the other collar and collar stand.

Attach one collar to the front and back assembly. Flip the collar upside down, right sides facing, aligning at the center back and center of the collar stand, and pinning all around towards the front. Then sew that in place using a straight stitch. Repeat for attaching the other collar to the facing.

Stack the facing with the front and back assembly right sides facing each other, and pin them along the dagger collar. Sew the two collar layers together around the collar. Do not sew them together along the collar stand, as we will add a zipper to the collar stand later.

Once the collars are sewn together, trim off any excess seam fabric, and flip the collar right side out. Top stitch along the edge.

Installing the Separating Zipper

Stack the right side of the zipper along the right side of the front, and pin it along that edge. The bottom of the zipper should start 1 inch from the bottom hem. The top of the zipper should stop around the middle of the collar stand. Sew the zipper to the front layer only, starting from the top mark all the way down, using a straight stitch and a zipper foot.

Flip over the facing layer, moving the collar out of the way. Sew through all the layers using a straight stitch.

Once sewn, flip the zipper right side out. Sew or close any open gaps along the collar stand. Make sure you fold the zipper over, and carefully sew over the zipper.

Flip the zipper right side out again. Before topstitching the sides of the zipper, we want to sew the bottom hem just below the zipper. Stack the edges again, right sides facing, and sew the layers of the fabric, but do not sew over the zipper.

Top stitch along the sides of the zipper, and match or close off any unsewn gaps along the collar stand, and even the collar. Repeat with the opposite side.

Finishing the Body

Stack the front and back right sides facing and sew along the side seams.

Hem along the bottom edge of the shrug, starting at the zipper fold, and using that as a guide to pin all the way around the bottom edge of the shrug. Then top stitch all around the bottom edge of the shrug.

Repeat with the opposite sleeve. Once both sleeves are attached, you can trim off the excess zippers and hand tack the facing along the shoulder seams, just to keep it in place.
