Accurate body measurements are the foundation of a good fit, especially when sewing with padding for drag and performance garments.
Before measuring, wear the padding you plan to use with your garment. This gives you the true shape you want the garment to fit over.
Use a soft measuring tape and keep it snug but not tight. Stand straight and relaxed when measuring. Have someone help if possible for more accurate results.
Measure key areas such as:
- Bust/Chest
- Waist
- High Hip (fullest part of hips)
- Low Hip (below hip bone)
- Torso length
- Shoulder
Do not rely on clothing sizes like “Large” or “Medium.” Different brands size differently. Always use your actual body measurements.
Any gender can use this method, as long as you measure over the padding you intend to wear. Katkow patterns are sized based on actual measurements, not traditional fashion size numbers.

Using accurate measurements ensures a better fitting garment and fewer adjustments later.
