These instructions tell you how many fabric pieces to cut and how to position your pattern on the fabric.
Cut 2 means you need two mirrored pieces, usually one for the left side and one for the right side of the garment.
The easiest way to do this is to stack two layers of the same fabric together, right sides facing each other, and cut both layers at the same time. This automatically creates mirrored or opposite pieces.
If you are working with vinyl or faux leather, stacking may not be ideal because the fabric can stick or shift. In that case, cut one piece at a time and flip or mirror the paper pattern piece before cutting the second piece to create the opposite side.
Place on Fold means the edge labeled “Place on Fold” should be aligned directly along the folded edge of your fabric, with right sides facing. Do not cut along the fold edge. When you unfold the fabric, you will have one full symmetrical piece with no center seam.
This method is commonly used for fronts, backs, or collars that need a smooth, continuous center line.
Always double check these instructions before cutting your fabric to avoid missing mirrored pieces or accidentally creating unwanted seams.
